A Family’s Strength After a Life-Altering Accident

In 2024, 15-year-old Emmanuel*, from Southern Alberta, was involved in a serious accident while out with friends to watch a local sports game. A collision with a semi-truck left all passengers injured, but Emmanuel sustained the most critical injuries.

He was rushed to hospital, and over the following weeks, underwent multiple surgeries across three different hospitals. His injuries were extensive, and his recovery is still ongoing.

Emmanuel’s mother, a single parent of four, has remained by his side through every step. She hasn’t been able to work since the accident, as her focus has been entirely on his care and recovery.

With help from Community Key, the family was able to stay close to the hospital and reduce some of the stress that comes with unexpected medical emergencies. The support offered a sense of stability during a time of deep uncertainty.
