Disco All the Time, Golf Occasionally: The Grooviest Round of the Year

If there’s one thing we learned at this year’s Community Key Ladies-Only Charity Golf Tournament, it’s that our golfers know how to commit to a theme.
On August 19, we traded a quiet day on the course for a full-on disco celebration, and our golfers absolutely understood the assignment.
From sequins and sparkles to bell bottoms, bold colours, retro accessories, and some seriously fabulous outfits, the course was looking very groovy.
And yes, there was golf too.
The 70s Called. They Wanted Their Golf Outfits Back.
Our theme was “Disco All the Time, Golf Occasionally,” and the “disco all the time” part definitely won.
Our golfers went all out, making the day feel less like a traditional golf tournament and more like the best 70s party to ever happen on a golf course.
The competition for Best Dressed was especially tough. There were so many incredible outfits that choosing winners was no easy feat!
Congratulations to Erika F., Jan G., Candice D., and Tanya M., who pulled together these fantastic outfits to win Best-Dressed!

A Hole Lot of Fun
Throughout the day, golfers made their way around the course, taking on games and activities at each hole and enjoying plenty of friendly competition.
That's exactly what we love about this tournament.
Whether you came to compete, catch up with friends, meet new people, show off your outfit, or simply enjoy a fun day outside, there was a place for you on the course.
Our incredible hole sponsors helped make each stop along the course something to look forward to. We had music trivia with Quantus Mortgage Solutions, “Beat Brett at Bocce Ball” with FNF Canada and Chicago Title, Chip to Win with L.A.D. Auto, Hula Hooping with Strive, Disco Punch with First National Financial, the Photo Booth with Codename: Creative, the Spin to Win with Home Auto Life, and plenty of giveaways with “Chip Pong” at the MCAP, Merix and RMG Mortgages hole.
The Real Reason We Tee Off
While we came together for a day of golf and disco outfits, the reason behind the tournament is something we never lose sight of.
Community Key supports families with children in long-term care by helping cover mortgage or rent payments during extended hospital stays. Every golfer, sponsor, donor, and volunteer who helps make this event possible plays a part in allowing us to continue that work.
And we couldn't do it without the incredible businesses and community partners who showed up for this year's tournament.
For those unfamiliar with Community Key, it was started after co-founder Paul Bojakli’s daughter had a drowning accident during a swimming competition. His daughter spent five days in the ICU, thankfully, making a full recovery.
However, Paul witnessed many other worried families visiting their ill children, some of whom had been in intensive care for months. It made him wonder: how did these families decide whether to return to work or to continue sacrificing financial stability to stand by their children?
Part of our fundraising efforts are through our partner, Quantus Mortgage Solutions. Every mortgage funded through Quantus includes a voluntary broker commission donation to Community Key.
However, many of our brokers go above and beyond a simple donation. For this event, we also received a $500 donation from broker Evelyn Cortez, and dessert was donated by broker and Board Member Cheryl Morrier.
The Disco-themed cupcakes were made by Cup Café & Bakery. Founder Rachel and her family were recipients of Community Key while their daughter was receiving care at the Children’s Hospital last year.

We are also incredibly grateful to the businesses who donated prizes, raffle items, door prizes, and giveaways, including Collicutt Siding Golf Club, Yummy Co Retro Candy Shoppe, Sugar Cube YYC, Okotoks Dawgs, Teresa Baird, The Better Butcher, Rumble Boxing Studio, Ranchman's, LuckySnaps, Semantics Café, EagleQuest Golf, Lina's Italian Market, FNF Canada, Greta Bar Calgary, California Tan, and Filos Calgary.
And a special thank you to our Early Bird giveaway partners, LuckySnaps, Heartprint Threads, and MilkJar, whose generosity helped us build even more excitement leading up to the tournament.
Finally, we have to give an incredible thank you to the Matt Rumpel Family Foundation. After a Board Member reached out to ask about donating a prize to our raffle, the foundation instead donated an additional $5,000 to Community Key.
“The foundation feels blessed to support organizations like Community Key that help to make a difference for families.”
We are so grateful to every business that donated, sponsored, volunteered, or helped bring the day to life.
In total, we raised over $20,000 for Community Key!
Your support doesn't just make a golf tournament more fun. It helps Community Key provide meaningful financial support to families during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
Until We Disco Again...
To everyone who joined us, thank you for bringing the energy, the outfits, the competitive spirit, and the good times. We have heard nothing but amazing things about our tournament, and we’re excited to bring it back next year.
To our sponsors and partners, thank you for bringing your creativity to the course and helping make the day so memorable.
And to our volunteers and Community Key team, thank you for everything you did behind the scenes to make it all come together.
We couldn't have asked for a better day.
So, until next year...
Come on Barbie, let’s go Party ;)
