Helping the Olivarez Family

On February 20, 2024, the Olivarez family was called by the hospital. Their second-born child, Juwan, required open heart surgery in three days.

Juwan’s father, Juan, immediately took one month’s leave off of work on short notice in order to assist his wife, Maria, in caring for Juwan through his surgery and six-week-long recovery. At the same time, they continued to care for Juwan’s one-year-old brother and seven-year-old sister.

Three days later on February 23, four-year-old Juwan underwent cardiac surgery from the left upper pulmonary vein to the vertical/innominate vein.

A Second Time Giving

This is the second time we have been able to help the Olivarez Family with their housing payment while one of their children was in hospital.

In December of 2022, Community Key also provided assistance after Juan and Maria’s youngest child, Jevan, battled bronchitis and respiratory syncytial virus as a premature infant at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Stollery Children’s Hospital. Jevan recovered and when the Olivarez’ reached out again, we knew we wanted to help.

“Thank you so much for the help! It is the second time now, our son is doing great now at home and recovery is going well.”

 Juan Olivarez

We hope that Juwan continues to have a successful recovery and we wish the Olivarez family all the best for their future.
